Fire Extinguisher Inspections, Service & Sales
OUR SERVICES
We will provide a fire extinguisher inspection to ensure that it meets the requirements of the Ohio Fire Code and NFPA 10. If the extinguisher needs additional service, we will provide a free loaner while we perform the service in our shop. We will tag the extinguisher to show compliance.

Maintenance intervals requiring an internal examination vary by extinguisher type. The most widely used extinguisher is a dry powder extinguisher which requires an internal examination every 6 years. This examination and maintenance includes disassembly, internal inspection, replacement of any needed parts, refill and recharge. This inspection is required by the Ohio Fire Code.
The hydrostatic testing interval varies as well, with testing interval for the dry powder extinguisher being 12 years.
This is the same as the internal examination and maintenance, but includes a hydrostatic test of the extinguisher cylinder as required by the Ohio Fire Code

Making Sure Your Extinguishers Are Ready
If you are a business in Ohio you are required to have your extinguishers maintained annually by a person licensed by the State Fire Marshal. This person is required to apply a tag upon completion of the maintenance. The tag will expire 12 months from the date punched.
Maintenance of fire extinguishers should not be confused with inspections, which is a quick check of the extinguishers that is performed at least every 30 days. This check is required by OSHA and the tag should be initialed and dated on back. While we offer this service, anyone can perform this check.
OSHA Required Monthly Inspections.
Monthly inspection of an ABC extinguisher should include the following steps:
- The extinguisher is in its designated place (they must be hung)
- The extinguisher is visible, or there is a means of locating the extinguisher (a sign for example)
- The extinguisher is accessible (not blocked)
- The gauge should read in the operating (green) range
- Make sure it is full by lifting it off the hanger and feel the weight (hefting)

Owner, Jeff McDaniel, retired in 2020 after a 33 year career as a Firefighter/Paramedic. He is licensed by the State of Ohio to service portable fire extinguishers and holds certifications as a Fire Safety Inspector and Fire and Life Safety Educator. His passion was to continue working in the field of Public Safety, which led to the formation of
Mac Fire Protection.
Jeff is joined by his son Justin who is a career Firefighter/Paramedic and is also licensed by the State of Ohio to service portable fire extinguishers.
Mac Fire Protection is being built as a family business. The family plays an important role in the business behind the scenes to keep it operating smoothly, and to ensure their customers are well taken care of.
